With New Year’s Eve looming over our heads, I wanted to publish some kind of blog. Something I was proud of to tie the year up in a neat little bow. A final flourish on one of my favourite achievements this year. This silly little blog.
Unfortunately, inspiration skipped me. I sit here, cross-legged, in a white room, waiting to be struck over the head with an idea. Usually, the feeling washes over me and flows from my fingertips. It’s as though I cannot rest my digits until each character is splattered across my screen. My brain whirring away, gently humming. Crackling electricity dances and leaps from axon to dendrite. As I stare at these four walls encasing me, I simply feel calm. A soldier at ease, no commands or instructions cascading from my brain down my spine. Instead, I suppose I shall simply bid this year farewell.
The new year awaiting us although shrouded in magical mystery, also holds some certainties. Donald J Trump will be president once again. Israel will continue to act without fear of consequence. Innocent lives will continue to be lost in Gaza. Tents will continue to decorate our streets homing those the welfare system has forgotten.
Venturing into a new orbit of the sun, we must remember to not rest. As we wave goodbye to a year of atrocities, we must remember our shortcomings and ensure we do not repeat them. We must stand together. We must not fold. We must paint headlines according to our narrative. I wish all a joyous year but urge you all to help pave the way for a safer future. Let’s weaponise our privileges and stand together.
Happy New Year everyone. I have hope for a brighter and more equal future, because of course, what do we have if not hope?
2025, I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.
